Muddy Press evolved as a collaborative book project between two artists and educators in 2024, Yi Dai from Changsha in south China and David Mumby from Lincolnshire in the north of England. Our shared background as art teachers in London schools has led to ongoing exchange of ideas around literature, design, visual art, and language. We print and hand-bind each publication in-house, with a focus on materiality and tactility while striving for a balance between accessibility and craftsmanship. Muddy Press runs alongside our independent, individual art practices and offers a space where design solutions shape raw material, drawings, writings, and sketches into publication projects that carry their own narrative and conceptual integrity. Our books are not simply containers for content but artworks in themselves, inviting readers to slow down, handle, and gather around the page.
